Title: Jr. Consumer Underwriter

Level: Principal Coordinator

Location: Plano, TX






The Consumer Lending Center (“ CLC ”) is a full service consumer loan origination department of Capital One Bank. The department receives consumer credit applications from various sources; underwrites and decisions the applications; upon approval and acceptance fulfills/processes the credit request; produces the legal documentation; and books the loan on to the appropriate computer system while maintaining compliance with all laws and regulations.

The Consumer Junior Underwriter is responsible for underwriting and decisioning applications. The Junior Underwriter uses key information submitted by applicants and data from external sources determines the applicants' capacity to repay the loan. The Junior Underwriter will determine any additional requirements such as co-borrower or additional collateral needed to strengthen the banks position.

The Consumer Junior Underwriter's responsibilities require that he or she communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of corporate management and risk management. In this position he or she will:


  • Maintain all organizational and professional ethical standards, while actively advocating and monitoring compliance

  • Comply with Credit Policy, Laws and Regulations

  • Underwrite and decision consumer loan applications received from all channels

  • Review and refer applications for cross-sell opportunities

  • Contacts applicants to request clarification and/or additional financial information



Summary:
The successful candidate will underwrite consumer real estate and non real estate credit requests timely and accurately. Ensure that loans are underwritten in compliance with bank policy and federal regulations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

  • 1 year of financial industry experience

  • 1 year experience evaluating applicant financial information

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office


Preferred Qualifications:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience

  • 2 years of Banking/mortgage experience, with a specialization in consumer loan underwriting

  • Knowledge of loan application process which include accepting applications, gathering any necessary information and processing any applicable documentation in order to successfully package a loan application
