B6 Associate Director, Project Finance (Edinburgh)


An opportunity has come available in Barclays Commercial Bank for an Associate Director to be based in Edinburgh, within the Scotland Region Project and Property Finance team ("PPF"). You will be reporting into the Head of Property & Project Finance responsible for evaluating and executing PFI/Project Finance transactions, under the supervision of, or assisting a senior team of experienced transactors with a strong track record in the Scottish market. The value of the transactions will typically be between £5m and £200m



Purpose of the role:



  • Originate, transact and manage debt led transactions. The jobholder will operate in a dynamic and highly competitive market place.

  • Identify and drive business development - by originating new opportunities from Accountants / Corporate Financiers / BCB Relationship Directors.

  • The prime objective is to ensure debt facilities for all deals falling within the Project Finance mandate are structured and transacted appropriately, with regard to both income opportunities and credit risk considerations.



Key responsibilities and approximate time split:


Business Development - 25%%3C/SPAN>



  • Originate deal opportunities by building up a network of KBIs (external & internal) and by regular calling.

  • Operate in a professional manner to ensure that KBIs are keen to return with repeat business

  • Present to new customers in a manner that demonstrates knowledge of their requirements, understanding of their business and competency to deliver a solution.

  • Work with SFCT and specialist product areas to offer customers a comprehensive and competitive package to meet their requirements



Deal transaction - 60%%3C/STRONG>



  • Ensure that we deliver what we promise - no "deal creeping"

  • Use appropriate due diligence to undertake a rigorous review of the proposed transaction

  • Structure a solution for the customer and prepare a detailed business review to support a credit application. This includes detailed modelling of financial forecasts.

  • Ensure completion of all internal KYC and compliance processes

  • Work with BCB Syndications on multi-banked transactions

  • Negotiate details of the deal with the customer (and their advisors) and review all terms with legal support. Review and complete bespoke legal documentation covering loan facilities and security documentation.

  • Oversee completion and funding of the transaction and post completion handover to RD and CCM



Portfolio Management - 10%%3C/STRONG>



  • Ensure monthly post deal monitoring system is set up and oversee performance of business against plan in conjunction with CCM and Relationship team

  • Deliver a no surprises approach to risk by using open dialogue with customers on risk status and by interfacing regularly with SFCT and BBS on any EWL accounts.

  • Oversee Zeus cases submitted by CCMs on portfolio accounts

  • Support CCM in handling the customer relationship as required

  • Provide input to the relevant RD re the production of an Annual Customer relationship plan and support any action plan as appropriate

  • Handle any customer complaints relating to PPF



Governance / Personal Development / Administration - 5%%3C/STRONG>



  • Be fully aware and compliant with all governance issues affecting PPF

  • Ensure quality of data within our systems is robust

  • Co-ordinate with CCMs to ensure consistent service quality and risk

  • Prepare a Personal Development action plan and action - seeking support from Performance Manager and others

  • Attend team meetings on a regular basis to maintain dialogue / sharing of information to ensure up to date knowledge of market place, business development activity / initiatives, competitors and people issues etc.

  • Support more junior managers in identifying strengths and weakness in their own skills and attributes , with a view to:

  • Coaching them on relationship development, service quality and risk

  • Coaching them in their own career development aspirations- recognising the importance to nurture talent for succession planning purposes.

  • Proactively manage input to performance management reviews

Knowledge and Expertise



  • Extensive in depth knowledge of the products and services available to the Project Finance customers across the Barclays Group.

  • An ability to identify opportunities where liaison with product specialists across the Group would produce a multi-product integrated solution for the customer.

  • Good understanding of policy and strategy within the Group as they relate to demands of the customer base.

  • Understanding of macro-economic factors affecting the corporate debt market.



Experience


§ Jobholder will have an in depth understanding of corporate business and financial issues specialising in the PFI/Project Finance market.

§ Likely to have previously undertaken a middle management role in a similar market place with the specialism of PFI/Project Finance..

§ A suitable professional qualification will be held (e.g. CA, ACIB, ACCA , MBA)

§ Ability to network both internally and externally is seen as key to the jobholder success in this role.
