Overall Job Purpose


The jobholder is accountable to the Managing Director of Operational Risk for:-



  • Managing and monitoring on a day to day basis the performance of the operational run team to meet business needs to quality and time standards

  • Monitoring underlying business compliance to detect early signs of changing data quality standards

  • Supporting the resolution of complex functional or technical queries received from the operational run team

  • Communicating with stakeholders across Barclays Group and Business Units the operational performance and capability of the OPUS Solution

  • Managing the developments and delivery of new reports with the appropriate documentation, build and testing phases to agreed release schedules

  • Providing operational insight into proposed changes of the Solution received from clusters and Group Functions providing challenge where needed

  • Strategic development of the OPUS system including liaison with GRB Technology and external vendor.

  • Planning and delivery of system enhancements with the appropriate documentation, build and testing phases to agreed release schedules

  • Assessing and re-enforcing the importance of the architecture and data solution in meeting business needs to support Operational Risk

  • Ensure changes to Barclays organisational structures are correctly reflected in the system

  • Challenge functional and technical designs where appropriate and validate working assumptions to facilitate decision making (including cost/benefit)

  • Solution (OPUS) to ensure it meets business and regulatory requirements

  • Agreeing prioritisation of activity within the demand pipeline for new report generation and system operation activities

  • Proactively identify and manage potential issues and risks

  • Agreeing prioritisation of activity within the demand pipeline for new report generation and system operation activities

  • Proactively identify and manage potential issues and risks

  • Manage the performance of the team, ensure compliance with Banks HR policies and undertake recruitment activities and assessments when required.

  • Manage the activities of the system development team assigning work-packages

  • Undertaking quality reviews of project documentation produced by Business Change Analysts to ensure:-


    • The appropriate controls and standards are followed in the production of documentation, planning and delivery of change to the business (review, sign off, test results etc)

    • The systems are designed, built and tested to appropriate standards, incorporating adequate controls

    • Documented designs and processes are produced/updated in accordance with Group Controls/Compliance requirements

    • Act as main point of contact with GRB Technology for new system enhancements




Ensure that the Operational Support Team satisfactorily discharge their operational responsibilities (20%)%3C/SPAN>


  • Monitor and provide MI reflecting the performance of the support team and GRB-T against agreed KPIs.

  • Understand existing OP Risk Solution and ensure key operational controls are maintained related to the OPUS systems and operational processes

  • Track resolution of incidents and business issues raised to ensure they are correctly addressed and implemented into live

  • Provide support to execute operational support activities where required

  • Provide input into the Change Control Board to support prioritisation of changes and system impact

  • Act as main point of contact from clusters for change requests providing initial impact analysis of proposed changes in terms of complexity, man-day effort and cross cluster impacts

  • Act as point of escalation for defect and incident analysis to determine route cause and resolution/changes required

  • Undertake and coordinate with other teams the delivery of a Risk and Controls Assessment for the OPUS application

  • Plan and monitor progress of deliverables

  • Manage RAIDs associated with the delivery of change

  • Identify and resolve issues relating to OPUS solution/implementation

  • Timely production of management information ensuring the appropriate MIS is in place to report on a timely, complete and accurate basis relevant information to Senior Management

  • Manage technology supplier in their running of the systems and resolution of incidents

  • Support the OP Risk Team and System Development team in proposing enhancements to support their activities

  • Work with Group and Business Units to understand solution enhancements and delivery timeframes

  • Manage technology supplier in their implementation of change requests and release management

  • Utilise live experience from the Operational Run team to identify solution areas for improvement



Person Specification


  • People management - team is co-located.

  • Technical knowledge of Oracle Systems database.

  • Business process lifecycle experience from business requirements, functional specification, user testing and business process implementation

  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with senior stakeholders, business subject matter experts, IT staff

  • Proven ability to interface with both technical and business communities

  • Facilitation and negotiation - effective at managing and influencing discussion and debate at a senior level

  • Persuasive with good interpersonal skills

  • Experience of major financial services reporting processes and systems

  • Ability to manage business priorities and manage wide range of stakeholders

  • Graduate

  • Track record of delivery

  • Use of Microsoft office products - primarily Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Microsoft Project , Visio
