Lead System Engineer
Overall Job Purpose
Engage with Business Analysts, Technology Office Architects and Business Users to produce a high level solution design based on project and portfolio requirements. Validate that the quality and detail of the business requirements produced is sufficient foundation for design and build activity. Produce the Functional Design document to sufficient quality and depth, ensuring that both functional and non-functional aspects have been appropriately incorporated. Present Functional Designs at quality reviews and check-points to verify strategic alignment with GIS and portfolio architecture. Direct and manage the team of System Engineers to establish and maintain a high performing team of well motivated colleagues based on personal development and pride in delivery. Ensure that all necessary documentation is consistent across projects and portfolios, in line with Technical Architecture compliance standards. Provide end-to-end oversight of the solution from initiative to delivery by ensuring the Detailed Technical Design (micro-design) is wholly consistent with the Functional Design and that the Build and Test activities are aligned with both the Functional design and the Detailed Technical Design. Lead teams of systems engineers, designers and analysts in support of end-to-end solution oversight, ensuring the quality and integrity of delivery Provide design assurance throughout the systems development life-cycle, including during transition of solution into the operational environment. Lead the GIS governance committees and ensure solutions presented fit the defined GIS Business Intelligence strategy and architecture.

Key aspects of the role will be:
Provide continuous end-to-end solution oversight, from receipt of requirements and initial solution to delivery. This requires alignment of content and quality of project artefacts such as the Detailed Technical Design, Build and Unit Test Document, System & Integration Test Plan, UAT plan and Deployment Plan. Lead a solution design and delivery team that may be geographically diverse. Manage staff including recruitment, performance reviews, career development and coaching. Establish and lead the GIS governance committees providing challenge and direction of technology solutions and fit for purpose designs Assisting the Technology Office or wider business project to produce high-level designs incorporating ETL, Data Warehouse, Customer Data Integration, Master Data Management and reporting technologies. Produce fit-for-purpose functional, high-level and detailed solutions. Challenge and suggest improvements to standards and processes to improve working practises. Ensure compliance with design governance as reviewer or reviewee. Support subsequent development phases (including but not. limited to) build, test, UAT, OAT, implementation and warranty. Provide accurate design estimates and project planning support Provide progress reporting and management reporting as required by the project and in line with line management. Actively mitigate project risk by proposing options and recommendations at an early stage and managing resolution of issues, escalating where necessary. Produce prototypes where appropriate, to verify business requirements and support design option exploration, formulating a more robust solution Support the Technical Architect by working with architecture and design forums and creating relevant artefacts as defined by the Technical Architect. Person Specification
Essential: Proven team leadership and team development capabilities Good people management and time management skills. Collaborative and results-oriented, passionate about the customer Significant insight to the portfolio data, systems and processes Excellent Analytical and problem solving skills In-depth Data Warehouse design skills; staging, data marts, relational database concepts, reporting. Excellent communication skills, both written and presentation. Proven experience of working within geographically separated teams. Ability to resolve conflicts Hands-on capability in an appropriate technical area (ETL, Data Warehouse, AbInitio, BI reporting tools etc) Teradata knowledge AbInitio Knowledge
Desirable: Financial Services/Banking background Ability to write efficient SQL Design team leading skills Experience of Data Profiling and analysis Physical or dimensional data modelling |
