Head of Data Warehouse Engineering Job Purpose Part of GRCB Technology, GI&SD is the organisation which runs, builds and maintains the Bank's IT infrastructure. Platforms, Global Infrastructure & Service Delivery are accountable for infrastructure platforms and functions that support the day to day availability and service quality of the IT infrastructure supporting all of the banks UK and European businesses. The Head of Data Warehouse Engineering reports directly into the Head of Data Platforms and is accountable for:- Delivery of a major component of operating platform infrastructure services or cross platform infrastructure services. In this case Barclays Global Data Warehouse. Design and build of a major component of the Group shared infrastructure Delivering technical changes to the infrastructure Quality and cost management of IT infrastructure Delivering an acceptable risk profile (including Security) in the IT Warehouse infrastructure Leadership, vision and influence over the strategic direction to IT infrastructure Provide data, which enables technical components to be aggregated in cost and performance terms into Services. The Head of Data Warehouse engineering is a key member of the Data Platforms Leadership team Manage the key stakeholders including GIS and Business Manage key suppliers & outsourced operations Main Accountabilities and approximate time split Functional Accountability (70%): Delivery of the component of technical infrastructure services to agreed levels. Delivery of the component technical infrastructure plan to maintain capability in line with Global I&SD plans Set the budget for the component technical infrastructure services and manage against it. Deliver the infrastructure changes needed to support customer requirements Support service operations in transition and operational acceptance activities Effective management of demand/supply Effective management of supplier relationships and contracts. Personnel management of a team providing direction and support: Ensuring that the whole team is fully conversant and fully aligned with the strategy and plans of Barclays, GRCB Technology and Global I&SD Platforms. Responsible for performance review and management of all direct reports, involved in overseeing performance and development of all staff within the department Establishing and agreeing the requirements for resource to ensure skills are available to meet current and future work demands on the function Ensure compliance to all Business Management disciplines including: Implementing operational and commercial models Adherence to financial plans, processes and Global I&SD commitments. Manage the allocation of resources against the planned levels of demand for own function against time, cost and specification. Provide input to the recruitment of resources required to meet future demands for delivering against planned goals and objectives of Technical Support Ensuring appropriate key measures and performance indicators are in place to enable progress to be exhibited against performance targets across Global Infrastructure & Service Delivery Compliance to all regulatory, risk and audit requirements and personal leadership on all engineering related matters Data Platforms Leadership Team (30%): Active contribution to the Data Platforms and Platforms, GISD wide direction and planning initiatives. Ownership and accountability for components of the Platforms, GISD management system and business plan Undertake work outside of direct responsibility when required on behalf of the Platforms, GISD leadership team Ensure that communications and people initiatives are effectively completed for specified locations Represent Platforms, GISD externally both internally and externally to the Barclays Group Technical Skills/Competencies Technical knowledge Solid knowledge of all the major components in a vendor's solution. Conversant in Tera Data technologies including TTU12 and Tdata 5600's Competent in discussing the technology with vendor escalation support team Internal and External IT Environment Can describe existing technology infrastructure across all major functions/departments and has a comprehensive grasp of emerging technologies: See list above Can discuss key benefits and drawbacks of existing IT organizational structure and relationships Can describe key aspects of strategic systems and technology development plans Can discuss company's position vis-à-vis technology-related trends and outline organizational implications Experienced with consulting on architecture patterns and technologies for multiple applications Plays a leadership role in the adoption and furtherance of the technology strategy Has identified opportunities for revenue generation through application of new technologies Business Knowledge Can fully engage with heads of relevant business area Can add value to business by suggesting strategies Is fully conversant with IT developments in the market place relevant to the business area Can engage with other relevant IT peers to architect end to end processing of the business area Functional Analysis Has proven experience with major activities, tasks and deliverables of functional requirements analysis: Experienced with preparing detail-level documentation of functional requirements Able to lead functional requirement walk-through and quality reviews Proven knowledge and expertise on specific design tools and methodologies Competent in engineering major components of the platform Proven knowledge of available tools, techniques and interfaces. TTU 12, TTU13, ViewPoint, 5450's, 5500's 5600,s Experience in evaluating design effectiveness (themes, readability, visual impact) Development/configuration Has a deep understanding of the overall development process and an advanced knowledge in one or more of the main phases Knowledge of the major tools in a toolkit for a specific platform Coordinates deployment tasks with end-user, operations and quality management Has experience with alternative implementation plans Service Delivery Conducts and directs software quality assurance reviews and monitoring activities Proven knowledge of major functions and features of workflow analysis tools Resolves major problems and fluently applies escalation and notification procedures for incidents Can describe specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approaches Experienced with all major development and delivery phases and activities Has participated in the full spectrum of delivery activities on multiple development projects Experience managing or leading a specific administration or support function Develops and maintains standards and guidelines for systems administration sub-function Product & Vendor Evaluation Has a working knowledge in product and vendor evaluation and selection: Plays a role in documenting business assessment deliverables Familiar with policies and practices for assessing application opportunities Has participated in the preparation of risk assessment and benefits analysis Experienced with the software licensing process and with standards and practices used within the organisation Aware of legal maintenance requirements of licensed software Familiar with stated requirements, including local selection criteria and standards Has reviewed a particular aspect of a product or service - functionality, performance, etc. Security Management Experienced with implementing security features for multiple applications: Proven knowledge of all audit and control tools, techniques and practices Consults to others on the use and benefits of various security products, tools and facilities Has compared different security methodologies and implemented changes Experiences with audit and control technique for batch and real-time applications IT Architectures Familiar with integration and implementation issues and their architectural implications Experienced in the integration and migration of existing and planned platforms Active in defining architectural principles and standards Can discuss issues and considerations for an open architecture Knowledgeable about existing best practices for system or technology integration Can discuss major issues, interfaces, considerations and potential pitfalls risks Has prepared technical design reviews Explored and evaluated design considerations for multiple technologies Management Competencies Control Has a wide network within the organisation and shows integrity while addressing challenging situations;
