ROLE SUMMARY: The role of Securities Compliance is to support the Equities and Fixed Income businesses that form part of Credit Suisse’s Investment Banking Division. These businesses comprise the sales, salestrading, trading and structuring desks (across the whole range of equity and fixed income cash and derivative products), Investment Banking Operations and their embedded support functions. Specifically, Securities Compliance staff undertake a mixture of advisory/support functions (requiring employees to build and maintain relationships with the desks they cover and provide day to day advice on interpretation and application of relevant rules, regulations, policies and procedures) as well as control functions (such as training, trade surveillance, monitoring/testing, desk and exchange reviews, handling of complaints, handling of regulatory and exchange enquiries, monitoring and implementing regulatory changes, new business/new product implementation, creation and maintenance of Compliance manuals and Compliance policies and procedures etc.).
In addition, all employees are also expected to become involved in project work designed to continually improve the operational efficiency of the team and the Compliance Department. Certain projects will involve other parts of Compliance not directly linked to the employee’s day-to-day responsibilities.
Presently the Securities Compliance team comprises sixteen London based employees located on Credit Suisse’s trading floor. This role arises as a result of a restructuring of the Securities Compliance team due to business growth, increase in front office staff, increase in the number of clients and greater market share in certain products.
The exact nature of the role (i.e. the specific desks/business to be covered) depends on both the experience of the candidate and the candidate’s own career development goals.
THE ROLE INVOLVES: Candidate will be expected to undertake this role for a minimum of two to three years. In that time, it is expected that the candidate will learn the businesses and the Credit Suisse approach to compliance with regulatory and exchange requirements and become familiar with the processes owned by the Securities Compliance team.
Candidate will be expected to gain an understanding of how Credit Suisse is organised, which businesses we are involved with and our regulatory risk appetite and quickly establish strong relationships with business management. Candidate must be able to deal effectively and confidently with senior business management and lead them on key regulatory matters. Candidate will also be expected to become involved in and subsequently lead projects to completion. At first this will be under supervision, but a successful candidate will be able to manage their own time and projects quickly.
Candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the Securities Compliance group, both in relation to managing an individual team within the group and making an effective contribution to the management of the wider Securities Compliance team. Candidate must be able to effectively supervise others, in relation to both specific tasks and projects as well as general work matters, be able to deal with competing priorities, be able to drive results and meet deadlines and ensure that their own work and the work of all their team is performed and delivered on time and to the highest standards.
Candidate will be expected to become involved in and lead both regional and global projects, develop strong relationships with global colleagues and contribute effectively to issues external to Credit Suisse, including regulatory consultations and enquiries, representing Credit Suisse on industry forums where appropriate.
Candidate will need to display the following attributes:

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: The Securities Compliance team is one of several teams reporting into the Head of EMEA Investment Banking Compliance/Head of EMEA AML Compliance. The other teams cover 1) Control Room/IBD/Capital Markets/Research, 2) AML surveillance, monitoring and investigations, 3) Client ID and 4) Registrations/Large Position Reporting/Takeover Panel Reporting.
In total EMEA Compliance comprises over 120 professionals, split as follows: approx. 55% in the UK and the remaining 45% in various EMEA locations. . TO QUALIFY YOU MUST POSSESS: • Essential: Strong academic record • Desirable: Degree level education and relevant professional or industry qualification • Essential: Articulate both orally and in writing • Essential: Relevant previous experience in the financial services industry, at an investment bank, regulator or exchange • Essential: 5 years or more of comparable Compliance experience • Essential: Thorough and methodical approach, exercises sound judgement. Knowledge of FSA / exchange rules and regulations. Good understanding of sales and trading environment and equity/fixed income products .
