Job Description:

TITLE: Senior Accounting Policy Analyst LOCATION: Mettawa, IL DUTIES: Research, implement, communicate and advise of more complex corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with government and Group reporting and external regulations and requirements. Advise and counsel management in accounting and reporting implications of proposed transactions, including non-recurring and recurring transactions and events. Counsel and advise management in business-related accounting and reporting issues and proposed transactions; analyze transaction structures and suggest changes or enhancements that meet objectives within imposed policy and regulatory constraints. Prepare and maintain documentation supporting Company position on significant accounting issues. Interpret and implement new or amended Group reporting requirements to respond to changes in UK accounting and/or international accounting standards. Monitor developments in newly promulgated accounting rulings and pronouncements and ensure timely and accurate distribution as appropriate. Develop a network of peer financial institution contacts to share accounting-related information, interpretations and opinions to develop policies for situations lacking adequate authoritative and regulatory accounting. Manage the implementation of complex accounting standards and significant Bank projects and transactions by leading cross-functional groups of senior individuals on a routine basis. Sponsor and coordinate financial and accounting related education programs that satisfy requirements of professional employees and broaden awareness and knowledge of financial managers. Participate in integration of acquisitions by translating general ledger accounts, determining purchase accounting entries and developing new processes to capture financial information to meet reporting requirements. Research, maintain and communicate more complex accounting policies and procedures to respond to new requirements and comply with government regulations, regulatory and generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory reporting requirements and ensure documentation supports Company position. Serve as liaison with management, attorneys and external accountants to coordinate policy and procedural development and resolve issues to satisfaction of regulatory and generally accepted accounting requirements. Research, analyze and assist in determining the practical implication of accounting and regulatory standards and implement strategies for addressing accounting policy changes. Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand. Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or other related field, plus eight (8) years experience in job or eight (8) years related experience. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and regulatory requirements, including US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), RAP, SEC, Call Report, Risk-Based Capital and International Accounting Standards. Employer will accept a foreign degree evaluated by a professional evaluator to be the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree in accounting of related field.
