Job Description

  PwC’s UK Consulting business is looking for a Senior Consultant to act as a programme management, project management or PMO specialist within their Programme and Project Management (PPM) Group.
The PPM team are called on to manage or direct a client's own project or as part of a wider PwC team delivering a specific project for a client, in increasingly complex environments across both the public and private sectors. As part of our growth strategy, we will focus on delivering more transformational change on behalf of our clients.
In this role, due to the diverse range of our clients and their environments, experience of formal project management disciplines is essential. Specific experience of proprietary methods such as PRINCE2 and MSP (or equivalent) is desirable (or you should be willing to qualify via our internal processes). You will need to deploy sound planning and control skills as well as excellent communication, negotiation and diplomacy skills. Previous experience of conducting reviews of large projects is an additional asset.
Establishing both external and internal networks (including with other PwC territories) will be an important part of the role.

The role will report directly into a Partner or Director. The number of reports will depend on the size of each client assignment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting to develop and deploy value propositions and points of view
  • Assisting to secure and deliver highly challenging engagements for our clients (internal and external) at speed and to the highest levels of performance
  • People management of junior staff (including dealing with all staff/ stakeholder issues)
  • Management of key client relationships
  • Planning and delivery of project work and programmes and the securing of benefits
  • Risk management, quality assurance and budgetary control of client engagements
  • Training of staff and communications
  • Proposal work, preparation and delivery

There will be opportunities for some focus on product and business development, and it is expected that the role will grow to include an increased focus in this area.

Requirements

 

The following skills are required for this role:

Essential skills:

·          Educated to degree level or above and possess an enquiring mind ·          Strong desire to succeed in a dynamic environment (you will need to be able to stand out from the crowd and act as a positive role model)

·          The ability to work alone or as part of a team

·          Experience in leading teams; respecting and valuing all people and encouraging different perspectives

·          An ability to maintain respectful client relationships ·          Possess excellent inter personal and communication skills, specifically in negotiating with and influencing others, both verbal and written in English ·          A track record of delivering quality work for private sector / financial services clients ·          An ability to oversee and engage proactively with Subject Mater Experts and their collection and utilisation of current, role-relevant business and industry trend information

·          Experience in building internal and external relationships

·          Experience of delivering the complete project lifecycle

·          Experience of delivering medium to large projects

·          Experience of the design and deployment of Programme and project delivery frameworks ·          An ability to promptly address problems ·          Flexibility and ability to travel extensively both in the UK and abroad

·          An ability to plan and deliver work against tight deadlines

·          An ability to manage budgeting, resourcing, billing and compliance considerations

·          An ability to identify and address risk management issues

·          An ability to take advantage of new opportunities for learning, sharing new knowledge

·          Expertise in one and experience of the remainder of the following: planning, status reporting, risk management, benefits management, stakeholder management, team and resource management, resource planning, financial planning, budgeting, quality assurance, third party contract management

Desirable skills:

·          MSP and/or PRINCE 2 qualified (or similar)

·          Understanding of and aptitude for commercial and financial matters ·          Security clearance from a UK or NATO government agency (now or previously)
