Job Description:

  • Responsible for development and execution of an product safety strategy for GE's offshore wind turbine product line
  • Translating customer and regulatory requirements in product features and process
  • Functionally working in the Product Line organization Integrating operationally with EHS, Product safety Engineering and external partners to develop and execute the product safety strategy
  • Closely collaborates with the Product Line Offshore Functional Program Manager to integrate balance of plant design requirements into the turbine design, as well as with the Offshore Systems & BOP Program Manager and Offshore Services Program Manager to drive functional programs and activities.
  • Supports the commercial team in discussions with customers concerning GE's product safety strategy and philosophy
  • Supporting design functions for offshore wind product development, ensuring that design is compatible with the GE EHS 21 elements with particular attention to the need for reducing risk and protecting people working on and around wind turbines.
  • Participating/leading HAZOP and HAZID studies to ensure EHS integration in product design.
  • Ensuring that testing, inspection and maintenance of plant and ancillary equipment is taken into account in the product design. In particular with regards to industry guidance on switchgear, lifting equipment, personal protective equipment and pressurized systems and GE procedures for LOTO, Electrical Safety and Confined Space Entry.
  • Assist in developing EHS programs and ensure implementation of EHS plans in accordance with all applicable laws and permits.
  • Leading EHS efforts to drive effective risk management by designing out risk at source
  • Benchmarking and liaising with customers and industry organizations to ensure that the GE product is compatible for integration into the customer portfolio
  • Liaising with product safety, EHS and design teams
  • Keeping up to date with all applicable maritime guidance notes and EHS legislation and standards. Qualifications/Requirements
  • Degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science or equivalence
  • 5 years minimum EHS experience
  • Knowledge of EHS regulations, standards and practices for offshore installation, operation and maintenance
  • Ability to understand service and maintenance procedures for wind turbines and their associated hazards and risks
  • Ability to work at height
  • Positive influencing skills in a team environment of a dispersed management and workforce
  • Ability to travel to perform responsibilities and duties
  • Background knowledge of maritime codes and practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) Desired Characteristics
  • Knowledge of European EHS legislation. Expert knowledge of UK and German legislation, codes and standards preferable
  • Strong network with EHS regulatory institutes
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Wind Energy or Product Management
  • Fluent in German (written and spoken)
  • Greenbelt certified
  • confidence with executive presentations; ability to communicate with colleagues & customers at all levels
  • Masters degree in Health and Safety or Engineering
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GE Energy products, processes, and organizational structure
