Job Description:

The Project Director will be accountable to the Head of Project Management and the Development Committee (main governance committee in Research Development) for development and prosecution of Project Plans by empowered Project Teams. The Project Director will normally support 1-3 projects depending on type, stage and complexity. The Project Director will be a member of the functional Project Management team. This team will support its members by sharing learnings, giving advice, and making all relevant documents available for each team member. The primary responsibilities of the Project Director will include:·

  • Driving production of: Integrated Development Plans (IDPs), focused on achieving the Target Product Profiles (TPPs) required to achieve the strategic imperatives of Medical Diagnostics·
  • “Ownership” of the Project Plan, responsibility for its development and modifications as needed, and shares accountability for its execution with the functional lines within Research and Development·
  • Ensuring actions are taken as necessary to meet project targets and make decisions within the strategic framework defined by Research and Development and the Business Segments in Medical Diagnostics
  • Coordinating and driving development processes, monitoring progress according to plan, and obtaining approval to proceed at major decision points
  • Analyzing scenarios, visualizing trade-offs, and making recommendations for decision-making committees
  • Responsibility for the Project Plan includes its budget which interacting pro-actively and assertively with Finance and functional lines of Research and Development to ensure that the budget is planned, spent, and tracked appropriately and effectively.
  • Forming and maintaining the Project Team, coordinating team start-up activities as well as creating a platform for collaboration, conflict resolution, and communication
  • Driving the project to attain optimum value (NPV) by visualizing trade-offs between time, quality/specification and budget as well as by identifying and realizing opportunities that benefit project objectives· Reporting progress and issues according to reporting guidelines in a timely manner
  • Identifying and managing stakeholders to ensure boundaryless collaboration with other functional groups within Research and Development, Medical Diagnostics, and GE Healthcare
  • Being aware of the intellectual property opportunities arising within their project during development and ensuring that sufficient information is supplied to the IP organization to enable filing of patents
  • Capturing, sharing, and ensuring implementation of learning points within the Project Team and with other teams
  • Mentoring and contributing to the performance of Project Team members
    " Qualifications/Requirements
  • An advanced degree in science, engineering or medicine is required.Extensive knowledge in project management and drug development processes, with significant experience as a team leader of development projects.
  • Solid understanding of drug and diagnostic product development, regulatory considerations and the commercialization process
  • Strong leadership, communication, influencing and negotiation skills with a proven track record of success
  • Ability to clearly identify and focus on the most business-critical tasks among multiple, competing tasks
  • Flexibility and adaptability, willingness to “fill in the gaps” when needed, and an inclusive approach to working within and across functional lines
  • Good working knowledge of project management principles and practices Desired Characteristics

  • Willingness to surface, objectively and dispassionately, sources of error, delay, or ineffectiveness in prosecution of Project Plans
