POSITION SUMMARY

The global network and security engineering group is responsible for the strategy, architecture, design, support, availability, and reliability of Visa Inc.'s credit and debit commercial networks (i.e. VisaNet), the enterprise corporate network, the global wide area network, the extranet/Internet networks, and the voice network. Network Engineering also shares responsibility with information security for network access and security compliance of all networks.

 

JOB SCOPE

This role is a recognized expert within Visa responsible for contributing to the development of functional strategy.  This is an individual contributor role responsible for solving unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business. 


 


  • Responsible for network modeling, and simulation performance testing, prior to network change implementations.

  • Position requires leadership and subject matter expertise in network modeling to provide support to project managers, engineers, and business leaders, as well provide engineering solutions for enterprise-wide network issues.

  • This position combines engineering disciplines with a focus for delivering IT performance solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Position requires the use of network modeling system technologies to design, simulate, test, manage and optimize network infrastructures utilizing proven best practices.

  • Design and analyze tactical network models using varying network modeling tools, and work with team of network engineers to review results and develop configuration improvements.

  • Build network models to simulate and test environments prior to deploying and implementation of network changes.

  • Collect network and application information required for simulation model building and testing.

  • Perform network design analysis and configuration validation.

  • Perform network capacity and traffic routing performance analysis, and test network traffic designs, device configurations, and application performance.

  • Provide real-time visualization of the production network, consolidating topology, traffic, and status information from multiple sources in a unified graphical view with key performance metrics.

  • Create test result reports and provide network design recommendations.

  • Develop modeling methodologies, and create custom network model templates.

  • Model and simulate wireless network environments and analyze operational effects.

  • Work under time pressure constraints and present modeling results in a clear, articulate manner stating any issued and resolution steps to Network Engineering and Network Operations management.


Position may be located in Foster City, CA, Highlands Ranch, CO or Ashburn, VA


  • BS degree in CS, EE or other related technical discipline and typically requires 8 to 10 years of overall experience..

  • 3 years of communication network design and/or analysis experience

  • Specific knowledge and experience in network IP modeling using tools such as OPNET or similar tool...this includes building of network models using data captured from Cisco Works or Intelliden or similar network discovery tool.

  • Network engineering knowledge and experience in network routing protocols, network design and configurations, and network modeling.

  • Fundamental technical understanding of multi-tier application architectures and performance issues.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and very tight deadlines, including turnaround of network models in five days or less.

  • Work well as part of a team interfacing with Lead and Senior Network Engineers, as well as with network operations staff.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively on design issues.

  • Working effectively to troubleshoot critical production issues using network modeling.
