Company: Datamonitor
Location: London Europe, UK

Job Description:

Ovum Telecoms’ Devices & Platforms team advises top tier global service providers, telecoms vendors and others on new types of connected computing devices, cloud services platforms and the opportunities that surround them. Our focus combines a deep knowledge of relevant technologies and a strong appreciation of the strategic imperatives of service providers, device manufacturers, application developers, enterprises, media & entertainment groups, and internet media companies. These companies lie at a confluence in ICT where new paradigms of service delivery and consumption are shaping and reshaping their commercial opportunities on an almost daily basis. Knowing the difference between the iPhone and Android or between native applications and web apps is not enough. Articulating what these mean to our clients and how they should respond to them is key. This senior role in Ovum’s team will focus on the market for communications technologies and services. In this role you will:
  • Write insightful analysis which gives our clients unique insight into emerging opportunities resulting from the evolution of devices and platforms.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a thought leader in the telecoms industry who is unafraid to take a stand on major issues backed by up-to-date sector knowledge.
  • Design, conduct and manage research and analysis, including in-depth discussions with senior industry figures.
  • Network with senior executives and clients, creating your own footprint in the industry.
  • Be able to present comfortably in front of a range of audiences—from sales people to senior executives within telecoms suppliers and user organisations.
  • Confidently support our sales teams in meetings with existing and potential customers through your subject matter expertise.
  • Manage, execute and deliver custom consulting projects on behalf of clients.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • Strong writing skills: You must write well. You will be comfortable writing both short, highly opinionated pieces, and longer, more discursive analyses. You will have a strong ability to structure complex threads of argument and to explain the complex in simple terms.
  • Intellectual excellence: Successful candidates will have a strong track record of academic, commercial or otherwise influential achievement in devices and platforms, or related areas. At a minimum, you will be educated to bachelor’s degree level.
  • Strong team working skills: Candidates will be part of a team of analysts with joint responsibility for developing our research. You will frequently work as part of a team on both analysis and consulting projects.
  • Broad experience and knowledge: Candidates must have substantial experience working for a telecoms operator, IT service provider, communications technology vendor, systems integrator, another analyst firm or publisher, or a user ICT team. Previous work experience must have provided you with deep knowledge of the ICT industry as a whole.
  • Client commitment: Ovum has built strong interactions with all our clients. Candidates must show both a desire and the ability to understand and meet clients’ needs rapidly, laying the foundations for long-term relationships that set us apart from our competitors.
  • Commercial focus: We have a proud tradition of strong growth and achievement at Ovum. Candidates must share this same philosophy and our entrepreneurial approach to ensure both our clients’ and our own success.
