Purpose Statement This role will be responsible for making the financial report preparation process more efficient by using the existing technology and the use of reporting formats. Additionally, will be responsible for advising and partnering with the GAAP & Regulatory Reporting manager with the financial reporting function, which focuses on regulatory reports, Board reports, stand alone annual report and ad hoc reports for Bank of the West (the Bank) and BancWest Corp. Essential Functions 1. Develop, implement and maintain efficient processes, re-engineer and streamline work efforts throughout Controller's department and other impacted areas. 2. Continually monitor and develop policies and procedures to maintain compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. 3. Document rationale for management decisions and interpretation of regulatory requirements when implementing process improvement tools. 4. Maintain working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and/or regulatory reporting requirements. Stays abreast of accounting and regulatory trends and developments, including those for risk-based capital. 5. Responsible for researching regulatory reporting issues and determine appropriate guidance. 6. Analyze financial reporting data, evaluate trends and make recommendations. 7. Identify, interpret, and analyze potential GAAP and Regulatory Reporting risks and issues using the analytical tools to achieve efficiencies in the financial reports and other processes. 8. Design, implement and maintain appropriate internal controls compliance, Audits and resolution of any matters. 9. Provide financial analysis, consultation and decision support. 10. Prepare reports and executive summaries of significant and unusual fluctuations. Education Required Education or Equivalent Experience • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred • Required license(s) or certifications CPA preferred Required Experience • Five or more years of GAAP based accounting and reporting, preferably with at least two years in the financial institution industry • 3 or more years of management experience Administrative/Technical Skills/ Other Information • Demonstrated process improvement skills • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting and Government Regulations • May require specialized knowledge of accounting and reporting for ad hoc reports. • Outstanding change management skills • Project management skills • Proficient PC skills--Word, Excel, & Access • Aptitude to resolve issues under tight timeframes and pressure • Strong oral and written communication skills • Ability to prioritize assignments/projects and multi-task within restricted time constraints Level Supervised • Will supervise a team of 2 or more Professional Staff |
