Transaction Advisory Services Senior - Valuation - Complex Securities - Atlanta (Ref: ATL00096)
Sector, Sub Sector: Other
Compliance Type: Regulatory/Compliance
Expertise: -
Company: Ernst & Young
Location: Atlanta , Georgia Americas, United States
Employment Type: -
Job Description:

Over the last 20 years, innovative new products have dramatically increased the complexity of the financial markets, from stock options to compensate and motivate employees, to structured products allowing institutions to repackage and transfer risk, to other more exotic instruments designed to meet almost any goal two parties can agree on.  Given this increasing complexity, the FASB has been under increasing pressure to help investors understand and manage their risk.  The Fair Value standard (ASC 820, formerly known as FAS 157) is part of this effort.

Ernst & Young's Valuation and Business Modeling Group, and our Complex Securities team in particular, has been growing rapidly to meet these challenges - with a commitment to a "People First" culture that translates into a tangible emphasis on training, flexibility, and career development.  We love what we do, and are passionate about delivering the highest quality results to clients.  This is accomplished by hiring and developing the highest quality people and supporting them both professionally and personally throughout their career.

The Complex Securities Valuation team at Ernst & Young uses sophisticated techniques from financial engineering to assist clients in understanding and valuing financial derivatives and other complex securities, for financial reporting, tax and regulatory compliance, transaction support and corporate strategy.  What differentiates us from the investment banking world is an emphasis on supportable methodologies for estimating the fair value or fair market value of a security - avoiding the ad-hoc approaches that many companies use to mark their investments to market.  Instead, we focus on the most reliable valuation methodologies available to fully capture the complexity of these instruments.  We work on a wide variety of projects, giving each team member the opportunity to gain exposure to the broad range of securities or to specialize in a few areas to develop deeper expertise.  We also expect everyone on the team not only to be able to develop models to value various securities but also to be able to explain the key drivers of value to clients - we do not have a separate "front office" and "back office", but hire people who can do both.

We currently have an opportunity for skilled practitioners to join our talented team, in offices throughout the US.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Analyst in the Complex Securities team, you will:

  • Serve as a member of multiple client engagement teams, taking a lead role in understanding clients' needs, conducting analyses and reporting results

  • Develop models to value a variety of financial instruments, using option pricing theory, fixed income and structured finance models, Monte Carlo simulation, statistical analysis, and other techniques from the financial engineering literature

  • Challenge yourself to continually learn and teach, mentoring others while developing your own career

  • Take ownership of your projects, while working collaboratively with other team members

  • Maintain and develop positive, productive, and professional relationships with clients

To qualify, candidates must have:

  • An advanced degree (masters or Ph.D.) in a quantitative discipline, with demonstrated aptitude in quantitative and qualitative analysis of financial instruments;

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience with a national valuation firm or accounting firm's valuation practice, or in investment banking, private equity/venture capital or commercial banking;

  • Experience in valuing complex securities, including options, warrants, fixed income securities, structured products and other derivatives;

  • Excellent analytical, project-management, communication, interpersonal, and teaming skills;

  • The ability to work within a given budget and schedule, providing top-quality results in a fast-paced environment;

  • PC proficiency including at least one Financial Engineering or statistical software package (e.g. Matlab or Stata), Bloomberg, MS Excel/VBA, Word, and PowerPoint;

  • Achievement of or significant progress towards a CFA, FRM, PRM or ASA/AM designation is a plus, with an expectation of the completion of one designation within a given timeframe.

The successful candidate must be committed to staying at the cutting edge of both the latest derivative valuation techniques and the financial and accounting standards that guide the use of these techniques.  We're seeking leaders with the ability to quickly anticipate and respond to the issues of this challenging area.
