PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The General Manager of Retail Direct (GM) provides financial oversight of the performance of the Retail Direct business and thought leadership through analytical, managerial, and research support to the Director of Retail Direct regarding strategic analysis and planning, financial operations and administration, risk management and management reporting. The GM makes decisions by working with Retail Direct managers on what business lines or products to go in to, what business lines or products to exit, and serves to leverage the Director of Retail Direct by acting as liaison, as appropriate, to the business units and other shared services groups. The GM proactively manages financial, communication and general Retail Direct issues as they arise and is responsible for supporting the other members of the Retail Direct Lead Team including the VP of Retail Operations. This position will also manage or participate in intra- and cross-departmental initiatives providing leverage to other managers in Retail Direct. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Oversight of the financial performance of the Retail Direct business: Creates and maintains accountability reports tracking performance to goals and metrics. Initiates and oversees process for measuring and providing metrics for both Retail Direct overall, as well as coordinating metrics for each functional group. Manages the creation of summary metrics (scorecard) for review by the Retail Direct Lead Team on quarterly basis, to be used when presenting to senior management (e.g., Finance Committee, Compliance). Manages the analysis and provides guidance that informs Retail Direct-wide decisions regarding allocation of resources and staffing needs. Strategic Planning: Provides high-level direction and support to Director of Retail Direct with planning, project management, presentations, firm-wide committees, etc. Provides decision support to Retail Direct business unit leader (businesses or products to take on or exit, finding the financial leverage in our business i.e., more digital investment - less Investor Center physical space investment, capital allocation decisions among business units to optimize results). Serves as a critical leverage point for Retail Direct Lead Team by acting as an internal resource and by providing key information and analytical support through her/his reports. Manages a group to do financial analysis and works in conjunction with Retail Direct and other management to facilitate strategic plan and annual operating/finance plan. Coordinates and plans activities between Retail Direct and Business Units for the strategic planning process. Works with other business units (i.e., RPS, TPD, GIS) to identify areas of business growth opportunities. Analyzes business plans/strategies to develop assumptions, impact, evaluation and recommendations. Works with outside consultants on projects like Customer Lifetime Value and Customer Segmentation. Finance/Budget: Manages the Retail Direct Financial Management and Compliance Group. Reviews and oversees global budget and monthly expense reporting to ensure proper budgetary controls. Manages the development, analysis and improvements regarding budget reports to provide a comprehensive financial and operational update to the Director of Retail Direct. Ensures budgeted money is properly allocated to support business growth. Represents Retail Direct on quarterly financial/business conversations with CFO. Represents Retail Direct with Facilities on administrative matters such as space planning and has decision-making authority. Highlights when MFSP advertising spend (one of the key financial levers for all of TRP) is veering off budget and works with managers to get it back on course - holds the business accountable. Interfaces with Vice Chairman on reviews of MFSP budget. Risk Management: Proactively safeguards the company and the Retail Direct business unit by applying appropriate risk management practices and programs. Leads the Retail Direct-wide compliance initiative and presents the annual Retail Direct Compliance presentation to TRP Compliance Group. Maintains schedule and relationships with enterprise risk management, internal auditors and compliance. Assures compliance with corporate policies such as gifts and entertainment, travel, etc. Acts as liaison to internal service providers to assure risk management and financial integrity. Works with TRP Risk Management team to assess overall Retail Direct risk management. Manages business continuity (BC) for Retail Direct. Communication and Project Work: Plays key role in enterprise- or division-wide strategic projects as needed and assigned (quarterly business reviews). Serves as the Retail Direct key contact for many cross-departmental initiatives or regulatory/compliance mandates as needed (e.g. space planning). Manages Retail Direct offsite agendas and is responsible for general operations of Retail Direct. Represents Director of Retail Direct with Internal Communications on Retail Direct-wide communications.
