Role Summary/Purpose

The Control Systems Lead Engineer / Technologist will provide technology and engineering execution for aircraft engine control systems in one or more of the following areas; Propulsion system simulations and transient analysis;Classical, Multivariable and adaptive control algorithm design;
Statistical tolerance analysis for aero thermo margins on stall, lean blowout, turbine temperatures,combustion pressure limits in aircraft engine operation Signal processing, fault detection and accommodation

Essential Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the functional requirements to achieve the operational requirements of the aircraft engine for fixed wing and helicopter applications
  • Work with fixed wing and helicopter manufacturers such as Sikorsky, Boeing, Bell in defining requirements
  • Define key characteristics of the electronics, fuel, hydraulic systems, sensors, actuators and control logic design required to achieve the control system functional requirements for power management, I/O signal processing, fault detection, accommodation, rotor governor response, thrust response and operations across the flight envelope, including ground and air starting.
  • Evaluate system operation in desktop simulations, hardware-in-the-loop tests (dry rigs and wet rigs), ground engine tests, flight tests
  • Generate control system certification reports for the US Military, US FAA, European EASA and other national airworthiness agencies

    Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science (or a high school diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of IT, engineering, scientific or other technical experience)
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in the aircraft industry or other mission critical systems development

  • Knowledge and proficiency with real time control systems development tools and processes for requirements & logic design, simulation, validation at the hardware in the loop environment, engine and flight tests (e.g. DOORS, Beacon, Matlab, Simulink, NPSS, Telelogic Synergy)
  • Teamwork, communication, and documentation skills
  • Experience with the DO-178 Certification process

  • Knowledge of FAA Airworthiness regulations for commercial aircraft engines and control systems e.g. CFR33.28.
  • Experience with software systems development in multi-core processor systems
  • Experience with digital communication protocols such as AFDX, ARINC429, RS485, CAN bus
  • Knowledge of reliability analysis, FMEAs, fault trees
  • Familiarity with US exports regulations on technical data exports
  • Experience in working with global teams
