Sr. Systems & SAN Engineer

 

The Sr.  Systems Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of Windows, Linux & SAN Administration including, but not limited to, support for the installation, configuration and maintenance of system components, problem analysis and resolution, and providing technical leadership in the planning, design, architecting of system improvements, new infrastructure build-outs, server consolidation, and virtualization initiatives.  The Sr. Systems Engineer is expected to excel at both team and individual assignments with minimal direction from management, and to assume a technical leadership role in all Infrastructure Architectural & Support decisions.

 

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline or equivalent experience is required. Eight (8) or more years of increasing responsibility and hands on Windows/Linux Administrative experience required.  Eight (8) or more years of increasing and hands on System Administration, SAN Admin, System Architecture and strong Analytical and Troubleshooting skills required.   Strong Project Management, Customer Service and Technical Leadership skills required.  . 

 

Willingness to provide 24/7 support required.  Excellent verbal/written communication skills required.  Must be able and willing to accept direction and feedback from others.  Must have demonstrated success at working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.  Excellent attitude and customer service experience a must.  

 

 

Daily duties and responsibilities include the following (subject to change as the business needs change):

 

  • Provide senior technical administrative support related to Aon  eSolution’s Hardware and Application Infrastructure  and related third-party tools
  • Manage and maintain Aon eSolution’s storage and tape backup environments; SAN, NAS, and tape.
  • Develop and implement necessary level of fault management processes to ensure high availability of eSolution’s systems and applications
  • Perform and/or manage daily/weekly/monthly maintenance duties for supported environments
  • Perform and/or manage Software installations, upgrades and patches to Windows and Linux Operating Systems and layered software packages
  • Perform and/or coordinate installation and configuration of Windows and Linux system hardware and software
  • Maintain, monitor, analyze and manage daily performance of  Aon eSolutions Windows and LINUX Infrastructure system components and make recommendations
  • Performance Tuning, system testing and upgrade management of Aon eSolutions Windows and LINUX systems to achieve optimum performance.
  • Plan and perform appropriate procedures, documentation, inventory assessments and technical architecture assessments for current and future systems.  Manage the evolution of servers and other system platforms.  Conduct software and  hardware evaluations, provide technical analysis and implement systems to meet AON eSolutionss goals
  • Perform and/or manage System Performance and Capacity assessments.  Impact assessment of system modifications/enhancements.  Establish system performance measurements and monitoring statistics.  Perform System Capacity Planning installations, modifications and/or enhancements.
  • Ensure System Data Integrity by evaluating, implementing and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions.  Establish Data Integrity Procedures, checkpoints and trending reports.
  • Conduct hardware/software audits of LINUX/Windows systems for compliance with established standards, policies, procedures and configuration guidelines.
  • Problem Analysis and resolution, monitoring and documenting environment problems/ Play a lead role in developing, implementing and executing IT Disaster Recovery Plans
  • Ensure Aon eSolutions maintains SAS70 compliance
  • Work to automate management tasks, streamline processes, and improve reliability, uptime, efficiency, consistency and security in Aon eSolutions infrastructure environment.
  • Manage escalations

  • Provide infrastructure and team leadership roles

 

 

Qualifications

Required Skills:

Eight (8) or more years Server and System Administration Principles experience

Five  (5) or more years experience implementing monitoring solutions (Director, Tivoli, etc)

Three (3) or more years experience with Virtualization technologies

Five (8) or more years System Administration, System Architecture and Troubleshooting hands-on experience.  Broad infrastructure background covering server, client and network hardware, networking, OS and Application levels required.  High availability environment experience required.

Eight (8) or more years TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS

Five (5) or more years troubleshooting experience with SAN connectivity

Five (5) or more years working knowledge of Backup Solutions

Five (8) or more years Microsoft Windows Server 2000 and 2003 hands-on experience

Understanding and grasp of Infrastructure Best Management practices and methodologies (ITIL, COBIT, CMMI)

Understanding of and experience in architecting infrastructure solutions to meet compliance regulations  (SAS70, ISO27001, PCI/Sox, HIPPA)

 

Education and/or Experience

 

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline or equivalent experience required.

 

Three (5) or more years experience with Infrastructure Architecture.  Experiences must include new technology deployment, technology migrations, and low-cost remediation of existing infrastructure.

 

Strong Project Management, Technical and Leadership skills demonstrated in a cross-functional solution delivery.

 

Strong Negotiating skills, Conflict Resolution Skills and documentation skills are key to the success of this position.

 

Excellent technical skills with proven ability to communicate, initiate change, and drive to results.

 

Excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously with little or no management supervision.  Must have demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and meetings timelines & objectives.

 

Excellent analytical skills, and a strong ability to learn/assess new systems and technologies

 

Excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to drive others to resolution

 

Must have demonstrated success as both a good Team Player and Team Leader

 

Must be a Self Starter with ability to work with minimal direction
