Job Description:

The Strategic Sourcing Specialist manages strategic sourcing and supplier relationship processes for major groups (categories) of commodities. Depending on the commodity or groups of commodities managed, the sourcing analyst may have primary responsibility for either sourcing or vendor management (or both). In managing both, this professional is responsible for increasing the capture rate by: increasing the accuracy of management information on spending patterns and internal customer satisfaction; standardizing products and services to produce economies of scale; establishing and monitoring supplier continuous improvement objectives, commonality of order processing and supplier performance measures; reducing the number of supplier relationships to be managed; and creating a single strategic focus for firmwide procurement planning. This professional participates in implementing organizational strategic plans, and interfaces occasionally with Ernst & Young's controller, Chief Information Officer (CIO), senior partners and Enterprise Support Services (ESS) business leaders.


 


Responsibilities


Apply and manage the firm's Strategic Sourcing Process in accordance with the Ernst & Young Strategic Sourcing (EYSS) Process Guidelines, Purchasing Policies & Procedures Manual and the Procurement Policy. Manage and lead the sourcing strategy development, requirements gathering, request for proposal, supplier selection, and contract negotiation components of the sourcing process for medium to large sized sourcing engagements. Prepare commodity profile information (spend and opportunity assessment data, current ordering processes, product changes, current supplier performance, etc.).


 


Track commodity spending and monitor process compliance to document savings and process improvements. Communicate progress, barriers, risks and benefits to appropriate management levels.


 


Ensure that detailed documentation is developed, approved, and retained in the Strategic Sourcing Plan and the Contract File.


 


Manage the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives and process improvements.


 


Manage the tracking of market trends (cost drivers, levers, competitive situations).


 


Partner with key customer groups, cultivating those relationships, aligning people and processes, and identifying workplace efficiencies to add value. Establish a culture that supports innovative applications of service delivery.


 


Manage expenditures so to operate within approved budget guidelines and participate in developing strategic and financial direction.


 


Work independently in sourcing projects and vendor management activities; however, receive guidance from more senior sourcing professionals when conducting executive supplier relationship reviews and when dealing with people management responsibilities.


 


Lead, train and develop staff members by using people management processes and tools that involve staffing, training, supervising, coaching, and performance management. Ensure the timely completion of performance reviews. Approves the recognition of individual and team contributions.


 


Strong analytical skills are required to identify trends in procurement and to understand strategic trends in the major commodity group(s) they support. Strong negotiation skills are required and understanding best of breed procurement systems and the role they play may be required.


 


Effectively manage the firm's knowledge, processes and capital resources; develop and leverage networks/relationships; maintain an understanding of the external environment and of changes in organizational structure; foster an environment that promotes the sharing of knowledge.


 


Develop procurement strategy that impacts the selection of preferred suppliers and the use of these suppliers on a transactional basis.

To qualify, candidates must have:


 


Education:




  • a bachelor's degree recommended



Experience:




  • a minimum of 5 years experience in procurement or commodity related field



Certifications:




  • Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) certification or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) certification preferred.
