Purpose of Job Responsible at a management level, to provide tax compliance services and advice to Chase Paymentech Solutions (CPS) Assist CPS in dealing with complex indirect tax issues. Responsible for liaising with federal and provincial auditors, JPMC Corporate Tax and JPMC internal audit to respond to audit requests and tax compliance issues. Responsible for taking a role in ensuring that tax reporting, financial systems, procedures, controls and policies are appropriate and functioning so that timely, accurate and reliable information is produced. Major Activities · Preparation of the CPS tax returns, including corporate tax, capital tax, GST and QST. · Preparation of tax account reconciliations for financial reporting. · Reconciliation of government tax statement of accounts. · Review customer, partner and vendor contracts and make tax related recommendations and comments. · Research complex tax questions and liaison with JPMC Corporate Tax as needed · Recommend and assist in the development of new/enhanced tax reporting systems, policies, procedures and controls to meet changing circumstances and existing inefficiencies. · Interpret provincial and federal tax legislation to assist businesses with tax implications that affect their business. · Calculate the self-assessment of provincial and federal sales taxes. · Liaise with managers to ensure they are familiar with the tax requirements of their specific business areas. · Liaise with business analysts and system programmers in the design and implementation of information systems that will support indirect tax compliance efforts. Knowledge/Skill Requirements · Minimum 5 - 7 years of direct corporate tax or large public accounting tax experience. · Financial services products and services industry experience preferred. · Income and indirect tax principles and rules. · Accounting principles as they relate to tax. · Knowledge of operations and controls of various financial systems and software applications such as (SAP, WORD, EXCEL) and the ability to extract and utilize the information from these systems. · Equivalent to a University degree in Business/Accounting and/or advanced standing toward an accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA). · Completion of the Income Tax or Commodity Tax In-Depth course would be beneficial. · Excellent communication; job requires attending meetings and making recommendations to JPMC Corporate Tax, CPS management and negotiating with auditors. · Strong leadership skills to build understanding and consensus in a team and to deal with situations where opposing needs may sometimes be present. Contacts · Levels up to and including senior leadership team. · Global senior management within JPM. · External and Internal auditors and other tax consultants. Job Complexities/Challenges · Superior communication skills to promote co-operation with senior personnel across operational groups. · Persuading business units and information systems personnel of the need to make changes to processes, procedures, and information systems in order to accommodate tax compliance. · Understanding of vendor/contractual relationships to ensure tax compliance. · Comprehensive understanding of multiple financial based systems and the ability to apply the tax rules to those systems. · Must be aware of new commodity tax developments, changes in commodity tax legislation and policy interpretations. · High degree of flexibility and creativity required to be able to adapt to a constantly changing environment and to develop and adapt financial procedures to meet such changes. · Negotiating with tax auditors.
