JOB INFORMATION

 

The Director of Accounting Policy will report directly to the VP of Accounting Policy in the Finance division. This Director of Accounting Policy will work with his/her VP and direct reports to ensure up-to-date company-wide accounting policies in compliance with relevant authoritative accounting literature. The Director will delegate responsibilities effectively to direct reports and perform the following duties.



KEY JOB FUNCTIONS 


  • Collaborate with VP about future accounting policies: monitor accounting standard and regulatory developments and anticipate impact on Fannie Mae's accounting; participate in discussions/conferences with standard setters, regulators and other industry participants; provide thorough expertise on new regulations and translate new pronouncements so that different stakeholders with different levels of expertise can understand relevant implications for Fannie Mae. 

  • Under direction from the VP, formulate new policy: work with direct reports to draft policies; review policies with Senior Management and finalize accounting policies in accordance with company operating policies and procedures. 

  • Under direction of the VP, liaise with Accounting Operations, Auditors and others inside Fannie Mae to assess implementation impact on business units and address any implementation issues; ensure that the business units and accounting operations have adequate training for new policy implementation. 

  • Liaise with other Directors of Accounting Policy to synergize efforts and ensure holistic understanding of Accounting Policy. 

  • Ensure that implementation of accounting standards is well documented and consistent with guidance provided by the accounting standard-setting bodies. 

  • Develop and mentor direct reports. Coordinate with HR to define staffing requirements of Accounting Policy.

EDUCATION


  • Bachelor Degree or Equivalent. 

  • Master or Other Advanced Degree preferred.

  • Area of Study Finance, Accounting, or Business Finance. 


Certifications


  • CPA


MINIMUM EXPERIENCE


  • 8-10 years of related experience


SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 



  • 8 years of experience in accounting within a top financial services or regulatory organization. Experience in a company with over $100 billion in assets is required

  • 3 years of experience in a leadership role requiring staff management, decision making, and strategic thinking

  • Experience with teamwork and evidence of extensive and effective communication capabilities with internal and external liaisons

  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP and SEC rules and regulations.

  • Experience in mortgage accounting environment; familiarity with accounting for mortgage backed assets, securities and loan commitments, derivatives and debt, impairments and fair value.

  • An active license as a Certified Public Accountant
