Job Description:

Position Details Vanguard, one of the world's largest investment management companies and a recognized employer of choice, seeks a financial planner to promote and provide fee-only financial planning services to Vanguard clients and prospective clients.

Your primary duties and responsibilities will include:

-Engages high net worth clients with simple to complex financial situations in the Vanguard financial planning process, covering topics such as investment planning, accumulation and cash flow (retirement) planning, and college planning.
-Reviewing client's data to verify/understand client's goals and objectives, taking Vanguard and non-Vanguard assets into consideration; developing a thorough understanding of each client's financial situation and tolerance for market risk in order to create and discuss a suitable asset allocation strategy based upon Vanguard's investment methodology; selecting appropriate investments to accomplish those strategies using both Vanguard and non-Vanguard assets; identifying and discussing appropriate savings or spending strategies for near-retirees or retirees.
-Communicating recommendations to clients during scheduled consultations while demonstrating the highest level of client relationship skills; creating a positive interactive environment for clients to discuss their issues as well as their questions; using the consultation, where appropriate, to educate the client on Vanguard financial planning philosophies and rationales.
-Promoting and facilitating implementation of the recommended planning strategy by coordinating with Vanguard Financial Planning's (VFP) Planning Support Unit and other Vanguard business units to initiate and document exchanges and transactions; monitoring the impact of the advice during the consultation in order to guide the client toward the appropriate next steps in the planning process.
-Promoting professional development by maintaining an in-depth understanding of financial planning, capital markets, and the financial services industry; keeping abreast of significant changes or developments (e.g., taxation, regulatory, legal, competitive, technical) within the fields of investments and financial services; maintaining all required licenses and designations current and in force.
-Maintaining an in-depth understanding of and complying with compliance, regulatory, and departmental policies and procedures. 
-Using strong written and verbal communication skills to build and strengthen client relationships, including a mastery of client relationship management (CRM) skills.
-Mentoring Level 1 new hires as well as Vanguard Accelerated Development Program (VADP) crew members that rotate through the department.
-Participating as a process advocate for VFP's core or secondary processes.
-Learning and supporting Vanguard Unmatchable Excellence (VUE) principles along with Everyday Excellence principles in the planning practice.
-Consulting with Flagship® clients outside of the VFP engagement to offer guidance on an as-needed basis.
-Participating in special projects and performing other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess:

-An undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation required.
-FINRA Series 7, 65, and 63 licenses (or ability to obtain them within three months of hire).
-Three to five years of progressive and related financial planning experience, with a track record of increasing responsibilities and success in previous roles.
-Extensive knowledge of Vanguard funds; experience in financial planning. 
-Ability to demonstrate exceptional client relationship skills (external client-facing experience preferred).
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Outstanding positive attitude with the ability to effectively manage change.
-Experience with Vanguard investment/retirement methodology preferred.
-Ability to work independently and as a team member, balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously, and demonstrate exceptional time management skills.
-Understanding of and application of various technical resources available to aid in  delivering advice and making overall recommendations.
-Ability to travel on occasion to Vanguard sites or to local/national professional conferences.
