PURPOSE OF THE JOB To ensure that the Absa Group Business Units complies with all laws, regulations and supervisory requirements applicable to it, by providing an effective compliance risk management framework and compliance support RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage the implementation of a risk based approach to compliance, within the specific business unit
  • Establish and implement a consistent operating framework for the identification, management, monitoring and reporting of Compliance risks and issues
  • Ensure that the operating framework is embedded consistently across the Group to meet internal and statutory requirements
  • Regularly assess all findings in order to establish trends and escalate all issues of a significant nature to the appropriate stakeholders on a timely basis
  • Develop a high performing Compliance function across the specific business unit and within the Group
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with internal relevant business unit and external
  • Implement established escalation processes for significant issues and concerns raised so as to manage the culture of "no surprises"
  • Review, challenge and roll-out of Group Compliance policies and standards
  • Assist the business units with the development of local policies and standards
  • Oversee the implementation and embedment of the money laundering control framework in country
  • Perform people management functions, including but not limited to:
    • workforce and recruitment demand planning
    • recruitment
    • talent management and succession planning
    • mentoring and coaching
    • management of discipline and grievances
    • performance development
    • reward and recognition management
    • training and development
  • Review and update the department's organisation structure and role profiles regularly
  • Ensure that Code of Good Practice (CoGP) targets are met for the team.
  • Ensure satisfactory service delivery and equal distribution of workloads in the teams
  • Manage cost within approved budget
  • Ensure compliance to Absa policies, legislation and regulations and that all staff compliance training and attestations are in place

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • B degree in Law or equivalent NQF level 6 qualification or higher
  • Five (5) years compliance experience
  • Five (5) years of managing a professional Compliance team
  • Five (5) years Auditing experience
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and the Internet
  • No criminal record
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • Diploma in Compliance Management or equivalent NQF level 5 qualification
  • Experience in banking, regulatory, consultancy or professional
  • Preference will be given to South African Citizens and Permanent residents of South Africa in possession of proof of permanent resident status
